Setting Up Business Analytics
You use Analysis modules to run reports and to view Segment models to analyze user activity on your Web site. There are several tasks that must be performed to make user activity data available for analysis. The following figure shows the processes required to make data available to the Commerce Server 2000 analytical processes.

To set up business analytics
- Your system administrator installs Commerce Server. For instructions for installing Commerce Server, see http://support.microsoft.com/support/commerceserver/2000/install/default.asp.
- You install the Commerce Server Business Desk client on the computers you will be using to perform business analytics tasks. For information about installing the Business Desk client, see Installing and Uninstalling Business Desk.
- Your system administrator configures the Data Warehouse. For more information about configuring the Data Warehouse, see "Configuring the Data Warehouse Resource Properties" in Commerce Server 2000 Help. Your system administrator may also assign specific SQL Server database roles to users, allowing some users to read and save reports while others can only read reports. For more information about creating these roles, see "Setting Up Data Warehouse Permissions" in Commerce Server 2000 Help.
- Your system administrator imports user activity data in the form of Web log, transaction, user, campaign, and catalog data, into the Data Warehouse. For information about importing data into the Data Warehouse, see "Importing Data into the Data Warehouse" in Commerce Server 2000 Help.
- Your system administrator runs the Report Preparation process to load the OLAP cubes with the data in the Data Warehouse. The OLAP cubes are installed when a site is unpacked. The OLAP cubes organize and store the data for improved retrieval by the analysis processes. For information about running the Report Preparation process, see "Preparing to Create Reports" in Commerce Server 2000 Help.
Your system administrator builds segment models with the data in the Data Warehouse. For information about building segment models, see "Building a New Analysis Model" in Commerce Server 2000 Help.
- You analyze user activity on your Web site by running analysis reports and viewing segment models. For information about running reports, see Running Reports. For information about viewing segment models, see Viewing a Segment Model.
