Adding a Product to a Catalog

You add new products to existing catalogs using the Catalog Editor. You cannot, however, add new products to a custom catalog.

These instructions assume you or your site developer has already created product definitions for the products you want to add to the catalog. In addition, they assume you have already created a catalog and added one or more categories. If you have not yet done so, see Adding a Product Definition, Creating a Catalog, and Adding a Category to a Catalog.

To add a new product to a catalog

1. In Catalogs, click Catalog Editor.
   
   
2. In the Catalogs screen, select the catalog to which you want to add a new product, and then click on the toolbar.
   
   
3. In the Catalog - <Catalog Name> screen, in the Products section, click New.
   
   
4. In the New Product dialog box, select the product definition you want for this product, and then click OK.

   Note

   • The options available for product properties and product variants depend on the criteria you establish and the type of product you are adding.
5. In the Catalog Editor - <Catalog Name> new (product) screen, in the Product Properties section, enter the information for the available properties.
   
   
6. In the Catalog Editor - <Catalog Name> new (product) screen, in the Product Variants section, click New, and then enter the information for the available properties.
   
   
7. In the Catalog Editor - <Catalog Name> new (product) screen, in the Product Assigned Categories section, do the following:

   Use this	To do this
   Available Categories	Select the category you want to assign the product to, and then click Add. If you want to remove an assigned category, click Remove.
   Assigned Categories	Select the assigned category, and then click Edit if you want to edit the category. Click New if you want to create a new category.
   Pricing Category	Select the category whose pricing will be applied to the product, and the click Set Pricing. To clear the pricing for the selected category, click Clear Pricing.

   
   
8. In the Product Family Relationships section, click New, and then do the following:

   Use this	To do this
   Relationship	Type a name for the relationship.
   Item	Click the ellipse button […] to display the Product Picker dialog box.

   
   

   Note

   • If you are creating a product that will have product variants, the price you specify here will be used as the default price for each variant as you add variants. When you create a product variant you can override this default with a different price. For information about adding product variants, see Adding Product Variants to a Product. For information about pricing products, see Pricing Products.
9. To save the product and to add another product, click on the toolbar.
